A few points
has an account of a recent meeting with Hunter Thompson that gives a rather more gloomy picture of his state of health and mind even than that given by Steadman on the news. The old guy had simply had enough, and used a gun because that was how he had chosen to live.
I have very mixed feelings about him - as yonmei
points out he said some horrific things about women down the years - and yet on most issues he was sort of on the right side. Anyone who hated Republicans that much has a certain amount going for them, and his adoption of the hyperkinetic style he called gonzo journalism was a widespread and on the whole good influence.
He was a stylist and a gent.
2. Apparently Dubya has barred Camilla and thus her husband from the White House for adultery and divorce - which manages both to be offensive and hypocritical. Hypocritical because various Republican luminaries, and others, are just as guilty of adultery and have not been so barred. Offensive, because it indicates just how little he cares for the feelings of his closest ally - the heavy anti-Charles mob will doubtless be pleased, but my guess is that a lot of people here will find this snub a demonstration of contempt for us.
Lots of people who don't like Charles or Camilla very much, will nonetheless be angered by this, because they are our fox to shoot, not Dubya's.
