Amid all that is disgraceful in the conduct of ABC over Grey's Anatomy, the people who work on Ugly Betty have made the show distinctly gayer in fabulous ways that almost make up for the -possibly temporary but I suspect not -departure of Rebecca Romijin as Alexis. Last night there was Marc's brief infidelity to Cliff and his sudden switch from the refusal to commit that this represented to proposing marriage on the spot. More importantly, there was the start of a story line in which Amanda moves into Betty's flat like a small pink tornado and insists on being her room mate. And sharing her bed. And being tickled to sleep. (All this after a 'Mode After Hours' webcast in which Amanda confesses to Marc that she has dreams of a sexual nature, about a woman who works at Mode, about Betty Suarez.) I am sure this won't go all the way there, but it does an interesting job of making the point that Betty and Amanda have been friends for some time now, even though they are constantly horrible to each other. And Amanda looks fabulous in Betty's clothes - like the single legging she turns into a dress.
Also, at the end of the show, Betty and Wilhelmina have a moment of stillness, sharing a beer on a roof, that was not exactly HoJay, but was oddly disturbing nonetheless.
