Reasons for silence

1. I am somewhat exhausted from finishing the adaptations chapter - Clueless, Ten Things, Cruel Intentions - in a fortnight. It starts to look as if this damn teen movie book might actually get in on time.

2. I am still freaked by Thursday. I am also irritated by the argument much found in the letter columns of the Independent that it is wholly and solely a consequence of the return of a Labour government which involved us in Iraq, both because we had no real alternative to the return of Blair - the Tories support the war and are ghastlier in all respects- and because actually we were almost certainly on the list anyway. Partly because our government accepts the existence of the State of Israel, and partly because of all the things we do that Islamists hate, fear and despise.

To make one obvious point, radical Islamists regularly call for the deaths of all queers, and as far as I am aware, queers did not invade Iraq.

We should oppose the war and occupation not because it will make us safer but because it is the right thing to do.

And, moreover, random terror on the streets of Baghdad and Mosul is wrong as well as random terror on the streets of London. One can oppose the war and occupation while regarding the fanatics who kill barbers for cutting non-Islamic hairstyles as worse than the Americans, because madder.

3. For some reason, AIM has stopped working for me. I have tried disabling my firewall and reinstalling AIM and neither of these procedures works. My firewall shows as enabling AIM.
